about today

Um.  So, I ended up not having to work today.  Everyone who reads this probably already knew my boss was pregnant, and she had her baby (17 days early!) while we were in Mexico, so her parents are in town until after Tuesday.  Maybe I will be done with work sooner than I thought?  We shall see.

Anyway, while I muster up enough motivation to go through pictures from Mexico and upload them onto the world wide web, I will leave you with this song.  I'm not embarrassed to say I was obsessed with this song in high school, and probably could still be considered so.  In fact, I have a very vivid memory of sitting in my parents bed with a bowl of ice cream and a bag of Dorito's watching VH1's Top 100 just to make sure this video was number one.  I was probably sixteen? I listened to my iPod a LOT on the plane and I may have picked my favorite Chili Peppers songs and listened to them multiple times, including but not limited to Californication (duh) and Scar Tissue.

Happy Monday!

Greetings from Mexico!

So Rob and I arrived safely in Cancun on Saturday and have been hanging out ever since. I think baby boy likes it too because he has been flipping out. Seriously is it normal that I can see the kicks outside of my belly at 22 weeks? Because I do. Whenever I sit down he pretty much starts kickboxing or something in there. Rob even saw it, finally! It just seems weird that it's apparent already, though I keep reading it's different for everyone. IN OTHER NEWS, tomorrow we are taking a super long bus ride to Chichen Itza, which is the super awesome Mayan ruin around here (like, 7 wonders of the world awesome) and spending all day there. It cost an extra $109 per person, which was annoying, but we justified it as being in Mexico and who knows if we will ever have the chance again. Also, unsurprising, I got brutally sunburned on day 1. I can feel my mother in law rolling her eyes at that :). And in case you are wondering how ,uh it costs to buy aloe here it is FIFTEEN DOLLARS. And it's not even the good kind. I was so mad. Well...time to go 'confirm out departure' with our representative so I will share more interesting content after Saturday, when we return!

yes.

In a little under twelve hours, Rob and I will be heading to Mexico for seven days of vacation bliss.  I can't wait.

boy oh boy

So, in case you missed the facebook memo, baby's a boy!  The doctor said everything's looking good though he is more the size of a 19 week fetus/baby.  So, maybe I'm halfway along, maybe not quite :)  Rob and I have narrowed down a name, I think, but that won't be shared for quite a while.  Is that a normal thing for people to do, keep their baby's name a secret?  I was given the advice not to tell anyone so they wouldn't tell me how stupid the name is or vent all their associations with the name.  Plus who knows?  Maybe we'll pick something else by August.  So, sorry everyone.  You will know when the time is right.

In other news, we leave for vacation in just about a week!  I am really excited though my family is flipping out about how dangerous Mexico is, and I've been informed not to pick up hitchhikers, get in the car with anyone I don't know, and basically read and memorize Homeland Security's webpage about safe travel in Mexico.

Also, when I get back from Mexico I have only a couple more weeks of work and then DONE.  Gosh, I have never been more ready to be done with a job in my life.  Is anyone hiring part time for the summer? :)

ALSO also, we are preparing to buy a new car.  Rob's little Hyundai Accent is more trouble than it's worth at this point so we are going to be purchasing a new (to us) car in the next week, hopefully.  Details to come.

And that's a life update.

scattered thoughts for sunday

+ trying to be an adult and get your finances in order by means of cutting back expenses, paying off debts,    having babies, and buying new cars is really really draining.

+ the thought of not working soon is amazing/terrifying.

+ we are going on vacation in 2 weeks!  holy heaven.

+ the hunger games movie was a lot better than i expected it to be.

+ on tuesday we have the ultrasound!  hopefully we'll know our baby's gender after that.

+ i seem to lack the patience (read: discipline) necessary to develop any meaningful hobbies.

+ our dog has seemed to develop a crippling fear of thunderstorms.  great.

+ maternity clothes are expensive and generally unattractive.  which is unfortunate.

+ people are finally starting to observe my "baby bump" and do not hold back the comments.

+ i love that there are leaves on the trees again.

+ i cannot wait until my dad comes and makes our basement a habitable place so we can turn the 2nd bedroom into baby's room.  i think that will a lot of fun to do.

+ is tomorrow really monday?  vom.

with child

I had previously decided I was going to post no "pregnant pictures" (i.e., pictures as above).  I think it's kind of awkward.  Anyway, I broke my own rule today because after getting home from work I changed into shorts and a t-shirt to take Simon on a walk (umm..hello, perfect weather?!) and when saw myself in the mirror I thought, "holy crap, I AM pregnant!".  I guess I've just never really dressed in a way that made it exceptionally noticeable to myself.  I mean, yeah, most of my regular pants are way beyond buttoning and  have invested in a pair of maternity pants and shorts, but I still just thought I looked slightly fatter than normal. Ha.  But anyway, today, at 18 weeks, is the first real day I felt like I looked pregnant.  You know it's a baby when you can't suck it in.

In other news, in exactly two weeks we will know if we're having a son or a daughter.  Rob is certain it is going to be a girl.  Which is weird, because I thought the woman was supposed to have these kind of feelings.   I still feel unsure.

hello march

Happy March 1st!  This is the month Rob and I find out if we are having a baby boy or a baby girl!  I am really super excited about that.

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday and everything seems to be fine (based on the what, 5-10 minutes he spent with me??) as in, I'm the "right size" that I should be at 16 weeks and I heard the baby's heartbeat again, etc etc.

Did I tell you we are going to Mexico in April?   Because we are.  Rob planned a whole vacation to surprise me.  He's awesome.  Hopefully those passports come in time.  I had to get a new one with my married name.  It may have been $110 annoying dollars, but let's just say I photographed a little better this time.  So I guess that's good.

Also, we impulse bought a new couch President's Day weekend and it was delivered on Tuesday.  I do like it (aesthetically), though it is way more uncomfortable than when we tested it out in the showroom (boo.), but hopefully that will change with a little breaking in.  Also I learned not to impulse buy couches.

In other news, I'm really looking forward to consistent spring weather.  I know in southwestern Ohio/northern Kentucky we have a while to wait, but I really want to just have the windows open.  That's my favorite.
