it's about time you knew

I am borderline obsessed with West Elm.  Ever since I stumbled upon it whilst Rob and I were in Columbus back when, I have become enamored with every collection they ever present.  Sigh.  I wish it was still open in Cincinnati.  But it's probably a good thing it isn't.

I mean, I'm not going to be ridiculous and say I need these bowls, but I do kinda desperately want them.

our friends are married!

Jarrod and Paige got married yesterday afternoon...at Caribou Coffee (where they met).  Wedding ceremony to follow on October 22.  We met them later around 7 for dinner at Melt and after a series of attempts at finding a Graeter's that was open/had electricity (?) we ended up at Starbucks.  Congrats Mr. Geary and Mrs. Jessee ("feminism, I guess")

Death Cab was sooo good, overlooking some technical difficulties and the fact it was a muggy 90 degrees out.  We had a really good spot to watch the show from, too.  They played Grapevine Fires, Title and Registration, You are a Tourist, and so many more awesome songs from a variety of albums.  Totally worth it.  All photos come from Rob's Instagram, as I wasn't feeling the camera and I don't have my own iPhone.  Also, Hannah was there.  All good things.

three years ago

I saw Death Cab for Cutie in concert for the first time.  Tomorrow, I go again.  I'm super excited, minus the fact the show is in Columbus and it's on a Wednesday.  That aside, PERFECT.

It is weird to look at these pictures, from three years ago.  At this show, Rob and I weren't married - we weren't even engaged.  I mean, I hadn't even known him for a year at that point!  It makes my head spin to think about everything that's changed since these pictures were taken.  Reiterate life-moving-quickly point from previous post.

july is ending

and so are my vacations for the year.

I became very spoiled in July, having two full weeks off for vacation.  Now that it's Sunday night I'm finding myself really dreading going to work tomorrow.  Partially because I'm absolutely exhausted and I think I could sleep for an entire day, but also because I am wanting to quit my job soon, and it's getting awkward.  Rob tells me every day I should quit that day, and he has even communicated on multiple occasions he's okay with me not working for a while.  But I just don't know.  I've never quit a job just because; I've always had a reason to offer my employer as to why I have to leave.

In other news, even though it's been hideously hot and humid in the great midwest (and everywhere else, apparently?), I am sensing my fall feelings settling in. I associate fall with back-to-school things, and it makes me feel really nostalgic.  Lake James makes me feel really nostalgic, too (Lake James = where I was for camp).  I actually spent a good time thinking about it last week.  The people I see at camp I generally only see one week out of the year, so every time I see them, they are literally a year older.  It makes me very aware of how quick life is passing and also brings to life a variety of memories that I have and associate with the camp. I wouldn't say it makes me sad, but it makes me feel something like sad, but happy?  I know that sounds really weird, but I guess that's what nostalgia is.

Anyway...

I just got home from a week of camp today.  No Rob + little sleep makes Abi a dull girl.  And maybe a little cranky.  I wish I had some pictures to post, but alas - I forgot my camera so there are none to be had.

i need a puppy. like, NEED.

I have begun to become more and more obsessed with getting a puppy.  However, all the breeds I'm initially drawn to (i.e. Siberian Husky) are just not suitable for the place we live (small house, small backyard).  Plus, Rob and I would obviously be at work all day so an overly active breed could wreak some real havoc on our home.  Mostly though I don't want to be unfair to the dog.

Today we were at my mother-in-law's (Jane) house and she recommended the Shiba Inu.  I had literally never heard of the breed, but Jane definitely knows dogs and we were looking up some pictures and videos on Youtube and I have to say I find them completely precious.  So then I had to come home and (after laundry, weeding the flower beds, etc.) look them up on weheartit.com  And I found....

I especially love the darker coats. Presh presh presh.

So I'm sitting here compulsively researching/awww-ing over dogs while Rob works on a design comp for the job I took pictures for a week or so ago.  Next step: convince my parents/landlords that I/Rob should have a dog at our/their house.

pompano joe's

Today we ate as a family at Pompano Joe's, the seafood place on the beach right across from our house.  I decided to get crazy and ordered...a cheeseburger.  Too bad I don't like seafood.

It gets a little hectic in the house so in the afternoons Rob and I have been escaping on little walks like these.  Today we saw the most epic sandcastle.  Also today is the first day we got a little sunburn.  This should be seen as a victory, not a failure.  Home in two(ish) days!

independence day

Currently Rob and I are in Destin, Florida with my dad's entire side of the family in the same house (31 people!).  It is pure chaos, mostly drunken chaos.  Destin is really pretty but it is so insanely packed and is purely a tourist town, which is kind of annoying.  My family has been doing this for several years but this is my first time attending.

Anyway.  Tonight we watched fireworks on the beach.  The sheriff actually came driving down the beach and was stopping at everyone shooting off fireworks and telling them they had to pack up, because apparently conditions in whatever county we are in are too dry.  That stopped maybe 2 people and the fireworks continued, and are still continuing.
